Dog Tooth Violet / Yellow Trout Lily Tutorial

The real deal!

I just want to say I am not a tutorial writer I have only done this to give you an idea of  how I did it but I am sure someone will figure out a better way.

Using the petal die from  the Spellbinders Susan's Garden S2-376 Blackeye Susan set I cut several sets of petals using Spellbinders Susan's Garden Speciality Paper.  I colored my petals using Olo Y1.2

I added a little brown PanPastel to center area

Next I used the large ball stylus to cup them (right side down on molding mat not shown her) next I placed on my speedball mat and pierced the centers for the floral wire.

I inserted the floral wire (approximately 4-5" long as to make sure you have enough then when flower is assembled you can cut off extra) into the hole from outside in and twisted wire with pliers to keep it inside.

once wires were inserted I formed flower with my fingers and inserted into the 1/4" hole of Susan's flower mold  then spritzed lightly with water and let dry.

While flowers were drying I shaped centers.  Using the center from Spellbinders Susan's Garden S4-1235 Magnolia die center I cut a center for each flower and cut it down as shown.  I colored using the Olo Y1.2 then a little brown on the outer tips leaving the long center yellow.  I carefully added glue to each tip and sprinkled with pollen yellow on center and brown on outer.  I then rolled up as usual and set aside to dry.

For the leaves I used the ones from the Magnolia set I used a brown alcohol marker to make the dark spots then colored with Olo YG8.5 front and back.  I shaped using the medium ball stylus.

Once petals were dry I add the centers to the flowers using Kids Choice Glue and curled the petals up a little using some small round nose pliers.  I glued the e stem using Kids Choice Glue pinching them around the stem and holding with a clip until dry.

Thank you for stopping by I hope you will give it a try.  Don't be afraid of thinking outside the box and creating other flowers with your dies!
